December 29 – The need for persistence

December 29. “Persistence is what makes the impossible possible, the possible likely, and the likely definite.” (Robert Half)

As this year is winding down, I have been giving a lot of thought to what I have accomplished this year, and what I’d like to accomplish in the year ahead. One thing I have noticed is that the things I accomplished this year took a good bit of persistence to complete.

The projects I completed at work, the turnover of my job to a replacement, the home improvement projects we undertook, all of them had an element of persistence needed to bring them home. Even this blog (which I have fallen behind on from time to time), included a need for persistence. I set out as a goal to publish 365 posts this year, and with this one I am but 2 away from achieving that goal.

For the year ahead I will need persistence again. Earlier I wrote about courage, and how I will need to have more courage than fear to make my dreams become reality. That is a good first step, and without it there cannot be any success. The next several thousand steps on the way to my goals will involve persistence. It will be by my constant efforts that I will achieve.

As I am closing out this day, my reflection is on the need in my life for continued persistence. Without it, my life’s path will be strewn with half-finished ideas. With it, there will be accomplishments that serve as monuments along the road of my life.
