Some of you may have noticed that I haven’t been writing much lately. I have hit a dry spell. After going through all of 2014, and writing every day, I haven’t found the same inspiration in the new year.
Part of the reason is that I am no longer using the structure of a daily quote, provided by someone else, to get my writing juices going. Part of it is that I have just been busy with work and home life. But you know what those last two sentences are? Excuses!
The fact is that I have just lacked the discipline of late to come home after my daily workout and sit down to write. What was once a natural part of my morning, as essential as the brushing of my teeth, has become “optional.”
I miss writing every day, and I am going to get myself back onto that train again. In January I was thumbing through some quotation books that I have, and selecting items to write about. Partly random, partly driven by the mood of the day. I am going to get back to that model, and start writing on a daily basis.
This weekend my wife and I are taking a mini-vacation to The Big Easy. We’ve never been to New Orleans, and I am looking forward to sampling the amazing food, and immersing myself in the history and culture of the region. The weather forecast is sunshine and warm temperatures, and after the snow storms around here this week, those are two very welcome changes.
So, starting this weekend I will be back to a daily schedule of writing. I have missed this part of my routine, and am eager to get back on track!
