December 19. “No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.” (Calvin Coolidge)
The Christmas season is fully upon us. In the days to come there will be a last-minute shopping frenzy, followed by gift giving, and sharing the spirit with others. Most of us who read blogs like mine and others, will have an amazing season. We may complain about some things, but on the whole we are living what most in the world would consider a dream. The fact that we’re all here reading this on the Internet already means that we have the resources to have a computer, tablet or smart phone at our disposal. I guess some might be at a public library reading this, but even they have a roof over their heads.
There are large parts of our society, and the world in general, who do not have anything close to the luxuries we take for granted.
Back in August, I wrote about an amazing family that organizes a charity event. You can read about it here. The Shoebox event was two weeks ago, and some of the shoe boxes have been delivered. This year over 750 homeless people will receive a wrapped present that has some of the essentials of life inside. It also will have a hand signed Christmas card, and a few other small treats. That simple shoebox will not make the plight of the homeless cease for them, but it will, hopefully, fill their heart with love, if only for a few moments.
Today I want to honor that fantastic family for all that they do. They don’t receive anything for this effort, at least not in this life, but they amount that they, and the army of volunteers give is something most definitely worthy of praise and recognition. Thank you, Rich, Kathy and the girls for being the shining star that lights the way for so many to give, and so many to receive.
