November 15. “The service we render others is the rent we pay for our room on earth.” (Wilfred Grenfell)
Between my Catholic upbringing and my time as a Scout and Scout Leader, service was something that has always been a part of my life. The idea of giving back, or just giving to those who need more than I do has always been a central part of me.
This weekend, between all of my other tasks and adventures, I spent a few hours counting and wrapping band aids. The annual Shoe Box night, which I wrote about here, is coming up in just a couple of weeks.
When I am working in the service of others, I feel truly good about myself. There is something about that act of giving that makes me feel just a little bit more alive.
Today my reflection is on giving, and the great feeling I get when I take the time to do it. And, I am pondering how I can give more.
